CRPH Staff Spotlight: Meet Abrielle Brown

This week, we’re pleased to introduce Abrielle Brown, who joined the Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare as a Program Coordinator in May 2026.  

Abrielle brings a background in public health and a passion for building connections that help communities thrive. For her, that emphasis on connection is what drew her to public health in the first place. 

“I have always been passionate about human connection and the power of community to create meaningful change,” Abrielle said. “Public health allows me to connect with people, understand the needs of communities, and contribute to solutions that can create a broader and lasting impact.” 

Abrielle earned her undergraduate degree in Global Health with a minor in Social Innovation and Leadership from the University of Alabama before earning a Master of Public Health in Program Management from Boston University. 

As an undergraduate student, Abrielle, driven to put her interests into action, started a nonprofit focused on alleviating period poverty in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The experience showed her that just because something may seem small or overlooked does not mean it’s insignificant. She saw how this issue could have a considerable impact on a person's health, education, confidence, and overall quality of life.  

At CRPH, Abrielle puts her experience to work supporting programs and initiatives that improve healthcare access, workforce development, and health outcomes in rural and underserved communities across South Carolina. She coordinates with community organizations and healthcare partners, supports grant and contract management, tracks program progress, assists with reporting and evaluation, and helps teams stay organized and connected.  

“What I enjoy most is knowing that the work I do contributes to something larger than myself,” Abrielle said. “Every day brings an opportunity to learn something new, solve a problem, or help move a project forward.” 

“Abrielle’s expertise and experience have been a valuable addition to the team.  Her ability to coordinate across our many programs and partners, and her behind-the-scenes support help keep projects organized, and teams focused on the work that opens doors for healthcare access in rural South Carolina,” said Dr. Kevin Bennett, CRPH Director.  

As she continues to grow in her role, Abrielle is focused on becoming an even stronger resource for the programs and communities CRPH serves. Ultimately, she wants her work to contribute to sustainable programs that strengthen healthcare access and opportunities for people living in rural communities. 

“Abrielle approaches her work for our programs, partners, and communities with an understanding that strong partnerships are essential to creating meaningful impact,” said Andrea Mitchell, Program Manager at CRPH. 

Originally from Irmo, South Carolina, Abrielle grew up dancing and had the opportunity to perform in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She also has two cats, Winn and Stevie. Abrielle returned home after college and now hopes to build a career that allows her to give back to her home state and the communities that shaped her.
