Dr. Kevin Bennett joins Commonwealth Fund as Inaugural Rural Health Fellow

The SC Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare (CRPH) is proud to share that Director Dr. Kevin Bennett has been named the inaugural Rural Health Fellow with the Commonwealth Fund, a national foundation dedicated to promoting a high-performing health care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater equity.

In this new role, Dr. Bennett will serve as a strategic adviser to the Commonwealth Fund’s Improving Care Delivery team. His work will support rural grantmaking, research, and communications while he continues in his academic and leadership positions at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Columbia.

This national appointment recognizes Dr. Bennett’s longstanding commitment to rural health and his leadership in advancing innovative, evidence-based approaches and policy to improve care delivery in rural communities.

Dr. Bennett has focused on rural health policy and disparities research since 2001. His work aims to improve healthcare delivery for underserved communities, especially in rural areas, by examining the impact of policy at all levels. He has collaborated widely with community groups, health networks, systems, and state agencies to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative care programs.

“I’m honored to serve as the first rural health fellow with the Commonwealth Fund,” Bennett said. “This is a unique opportunity to help shape national strategies that support rural communities, and I look forward to contributing to their efforts to improve care delivery across the country. I’m also excited to bring what I learn back to South Carolina and continue strengthening our work at CRPH.”
